Hemp Innovation Hub

Hemp in the bioeconomy is contemporary and has potential. Legalization in Germany and the global trend towards innovations in sustainability have given the topic of hemp a new shine and one quickly understands the potential that lies behind this renewable raw material. In our view, it needs to be built up on a regional basis in order to establish a successful supra-regional infrastructure for the market in the medium term. Structural change is already affecting structurally weak and rural regions. We want to respond to this change with the first Hemp Innovation Hub. We are addressing investors, municipalities and companies to support the project.

Why Eifel region ?

The Eifel and East Belgium have a long history with hemp. For example, in the cultivation of textiles and building materials. The combination of resources and knowledge of a cross-border project leads to more opportunities. As a structurally weak region, the hub offers the region the opportunity to revitalize a sector of the economy for the regions, farmers, municipalities and companies. The high proportion of agriculture / farmers between North Rhine-Westphalia and Rhineland-Palatinate forms the basis. It is also an eligible region for funding from the European Union (Green Deal, Rural Agriculture and Rural Development). We want to use these opportunities by building an infrastructure.

Pilot Space
